Class Trailer reviews!
Toxic Avenger (1986)
Comedy Horror
My mark (after viewing) 5/10
What happened in the trailer? The comedy horror sees Tromaville has a monstrous new hero. The Toxic Avenger is born when mop boy Melvin Junko falls into a vat of toxic waste. Now evildoers will have a lot to lose.
Which positive, clever or interesting aspects do you think you could include in your own trailer? What generic features are fulfilled well? The positive, clever and interesting aspects which generically featured well, was the cheesy voice-over because it seems intentionally over the top with sayings repeated like ‘The Toxic Avenger’. The comedy over shadows the horror but general makes the film what it is. Generic features shown in Toxic Avenger (1986) is the mise-en-scene of gore/body horror in the trailer with the man getting his arm ripped off and blood spilling out which relates to themes of violence. Plus loneliness before Melvin turns into the ‘The Toxic Avenger’, it sees Melvin being bullied and feeling outside the cultural dominant ideology being who he is throughout the movie and then turning into the representation of a fast moving monster mixed with a male hero.
Which aspects of the trailer did you think were unsuccessful, and would put you off its target audience? How is it disappointing? The aspect of the trailer which was unsuccessful and put off its target audience was that the horror doesn’t work enough. Also it really only has one character throughout being ‘The Toxic Avenger’ but we don’t actually see the monsters face. Furthermore it’s too funny to be scary and too much of the storyline and spoilers were shown.
What was the trailer’s average score in class? Why did it receive that mark? The trailer’s average class score was six out of ten because generally the horror aspect wasn’t shown.
