Shower After
In this scene expressionist cinematography is used to help create an emotional effect. This is shown with an extreme close-up of Marion’s eye which creates an unsettling atmosphere, which is added to by the silence in the room following the loud string music of the shower scene. Intellectual montage is shown when before there is a shot of the bath plug hole with blood pouring down the hole then cuts to this shot of the teary eye which links these shots together to form the same emotion, sadness. This feeling is emphasised by the use of montage, and slow shot zooming out from the extreme close-up of eye to Marion’s whole body laying on the bathroom floor. We then look down at her from a high angle, connoting her weakness, before the camera tracks away into the next room.
